My Daughter's Prom with #Linky

Welcome to my Picture Perfect
Party Linky #211!

In the United States, the main dance of your final year is called the "prom". I found out on Wiki that in Britain, Australia, and some parts of Canada it's known as the "formal" or "grad". In South Africa, they call it the "Matric Dance" or "Matric Farewell".

Jessica went with a friend to hers. Her big brother did the same at his in 2014. Neither of them were dating anyone at the time. Knowing that Jessica would be hanging out with friends made me very happy.

We had a small party with finger foods in the afternoon where we took photos before Jessica and her date drove off for the evening. My mom-in-law provided the prawns (shrimp) and we bought the sushi and donuts and made the sandwiches. Hubby picked the flowers from our garden and arranged them in the vase.

It was just our two families, the five of us with my mom-in-law and the boy and his mom. I'm glad we could invite them both, because so much time is spent on preparing for this day and it's over so fast. We made it possible for the mom to come by offering to drive her home afterwards, since her son was using her car for the event. The car is in the photo above.

The theme for the two of them was blue like the car. The boy's suit was blue, but Jessica's dress wasn't, so she picked out blue accessories including a fake blue tattoo that she purchased on eBay from Taiwan. Thankfully it arrived in time, but our mail is slow! She painted her own nails and a lady applied the nail art for a small fee. Samantha and I did Jessica's hair, and my mom-in-law made the necessary alterations to her dress. Getting Jessica ready for her big night felt a bit like being the mother-of-the-bride.

Two years ago it was Jeremiah who had his Matric Farewell. He's our eldest child and in his second year at university. I wonder if you've seen on the news how there has been rioting over an increase in student fees. His university was shut down for almost two weeks! When he finally got to go back to class on Monday, he said there were police everywhere on campus to ensure the safety of students and staff. That was true at other universities too.
